First Birthday - 21st March 2009
It's been a whole year since I landed on my perch at The Wetlands and the weather has changed so dramatically from day to day, that I have been frequently blown off the perch and had my feathers ruffled on many occasions!
Each morning I make an important decision....depending on which way the wind is blowing.......do I spend the day looking at the Lakes.....or the rabbits and stoats playing in the field? Or should I look towards the gate and play a game of anticipating what visitors might like to eat as they park their cars? Or should I look down the lane, and watch the dumpers and diggers moving sand and gravel, ready for the next phase of the Wetlands Extension........believe it or not....two days are never the same down Dryham Lane.
My bird identification has improved over the year,as the dedicated "birders" try to guide me through the fluff, feathers and bird song that can be found in the surrounding hedges and trees.Barn Owls frequently swoop overhead looking for a "live" breakfast, robins and blackbirds fight over scraps of bread and long tailed tits fly about like radio controlled penny lollies.
As the daylight hours increase and the weather improves I look forward to meeting more visitors both old and new. I often feel like an Information Centre handing out maps and bird lists. On the side of the van is a board with the latest sightings.........this reads like The Menu some days !!!
Hope to see you soon.
